Brollo Solar employs amorphous silicon (Si-a)
cells.
Si-a macro-cells manufactured by Uni- Solar are made
up of three overlapping cells (triple-junction) each
featuring slightly different properties of solar radiation
absorption,
thus widening the spectrum to the extremes (ultraviolet
and infrared).
This allows an efficiency increase at low irradiance
levels, typically morning and evening hours, cloudy
weather or fog.
Moreover, Si-a layers (approx. thickness 1 micron each)
are applied, through a vacuum technique on a continuous
line, over a flexible stainless steel foil, making
it suitable for use on curved surfaces with minimum
radius up to 1 meter.
Currently available materials from Uni-Solar include
photovoltaic foils made of 11 and 22 cell stack with
nominal power of 68,
136 and 144 Wp.
