Marcegaglia Buildtech: jobs preserved in Taranto
(ANSA) - ROME, DEC 3, 2014 - The Marcegaglia Buildtech plant in the Puglia region will be acquired by the Piemonte-based
Otlec group: the agreement was signed today at the Italian Ministry of Economic Development by the top management
of the two company in the presence of deputy minister Claudio De Vincenti, the president of the Puglia region Nichi Vendola and union representatives. Otlec group, a steel processor specialized in the manufacturing of cogenerators and burners, will restart the production in line with the traditional core business of the plant and with the know how of workers who will be re-employed.
The Marcegaglia group had converted the production of the Taranto plant from industrial boilers to photovoltaic systems; following the crisis in the sector, the plant was closed after a year of unemployment benefit regime. During that phase, the Mantua-based steel group had started a scouting activity of potential buyers through a consultancy firm, on the condition that employees could be restored in their jobs. Thanks to the agreement signed today, the 85 workers still under unemployment benefits (from the original 140, after re-allocations within group plants or resignation incentives) will get back to work in November 2015, when the benefits are set to expire.
