THE “B-SIDE” OF ARCHITECTURE RETURNS TO THE SPOTLIGHT: WHERE DESIGN, INDUSTRY AND EDUCATION MEET

After the success of its first edition, B-Palace Art returns. The competition is open to students from universities and academies of design and architecture and focuses on the often-overlooked secondary surfaces of buildings.
Participants are invited to explore the “B-side” of architecture – blank façades, side elevations and marginal surfaces – and reinterpret them through the use of steel as both a cladding material and a powerful medium for architectural identity and expression.

With Cromatica Marcegaglia technology, steel can be digitally printed with bespoke imagery in a wide range of colors and finishes, while the advanced processing techniques of Sandrini Metalli enable the creation of three-dimensional surfaces and custom profiles. Together, these technologies provide students with practical tools to experiment with design solutions that combine innovation, technical value and strong narrative impact..

B-Palace Art 2026 stands out for its hands-on approach: selected projects will be built, exhibited and presented by the students themselves at B-CAD 2026 – the International Building, Architecture and Design Fair, taking place in Rome from 4 to 6 September 2026.

Building on the previous edition, this new chapter places design excellence and applied experimentation at its core, offering participants the opportunity to transform neglected surfaces into distinctive elements of the built environment.
