more than steel processor
Founded in 1959 in Gazoldo degli Ippoliti, a small village near Mantua where it still has its headquarters, Marcegaglia is the leading Italian industrial Group in the entire steel value chain. Fully controlled by Antonio and Emma Marcegaglia, the children of Steno and Mira, the Group, a world leader in steel processing, entered into primary production in 2023 for the first time in its 60-year history, acquiring an electric arc furnace for specialty steels in Sheffield, UK.
a winning DNA
Flexibility, strength, quick decision making and a modello di business that combines the dynamism of the Italian family business, with the operating capacity and a vast presence on the traditional international markets of the multinationals.
These are the characteristics that make the Marcegaglia Group able to navigate the most challenging markets and geopolitical conditions easily and successfully, thanks to industrial synergies, economies of scale, product diversification and procurement.
The unique strategic positioning of the Group is guaranteed by a huge range of products, from carbon steel to stainless steel, from long products to flat products, from pre-painted, using the latest Digital Print innovations, to heavy plates.
Today, more than 15,000 clients in Europe and around the world testify to the market the strength of the Group.

“Core” activities are grouped into Marcegaglia Steel Holdings (97% of total business), across seven companies: Marcegaglia Ravenna and Marcegaglia Carbon Steel, with the flat and welded tubes and carbon steel cold-drawn bars product divisions; Marcegaglia Buildtech for civil and road construction; Marcegaglia Stainless Sheffield, Marcegaglia Gazoldo Inox and Marcegaglia Specialties, with the stainless steel long products, flat products, tubes and cold drawn bars divisions; Marcegaglia Plates for heavy plates.
The holding company Marcegaglia Investments (3%) identifies the Groups diversified activities.
Marcegaglia immediately combined doing business with wanting to take on a significant social role: an entrepreneur should create and distribute wealth, but must also provide for the personal and economic development of its employees and partners, while attempting to be a reliable stakeholder for the territories in which he operates. He must be able to contribute to designing a world that strikes the right balance between resources, well-being, and inclusion.
His many community support initiatives originate from this spirit, structured into the Marcegaglia Foundation in 2010, the not-for-profit organization established at the behest of the family.
A linchpin of this business strategy is the almost “fiduciary” relationship developed with customers and suppliers. The unique characteristics of this production network allow synergies to be created with customers that become genuine partnerships in the integration between supply chains and the development of new products and employment solutions, also through the strong support provided to some of the most technologically advanced sectors.
Marcegaglia’s constant commitment to an ever-increasing knowledge of the raw materials used and their manufacturing processes has led the company to become a reference point for its customers and international certification bodies in the continuous search for new and higher quality standards.
The group’s R&D division also provides support to numerous technologically advanced sectors, identifying new products, processing, finishes and application solutions.
The design and implementation of integrated digital and automation solutions, as result of a strong synergy between IT and R&D engineering departments, guarantee the best performances in terms of production and service.
Special attention has been dedicated to the improvement of information flows, specially on production timing and shared in real time with customers.
The state-of-the-art technology optimizes the goods flow and becomes a further key feature to increase efficiency, safety of workers and enhancement of the value chain.
