Women who lead in business

At the closing of Made in Steel 2025, a dedicated talk focused entirely on women and steel took place. Opening the session, President Emma Marcegaglia discussed with Paolo Bricco the topics of geopolitical crises, global economic shifts, and cultural changes, sharing a clear vision: gender equality and female empowerment are not just ethical values but strategic levers for the future of economies and businesses.
“Even in the steel industry, as in other sectors, the gender gap remains significant,” said the president. “But change is happening, as evidenced by the presence of many women in top roles in politics and economics, both internationally and in Italy. The road ahead is long, but we must not retreat.” She also issued a call to action: “If power is to be exercised responsibly, it must also be defended when necessary. Women, now more than ever, need to feel legitimate in exercising it authentically—without mimicking male models or being sidelined. And this is especially important for the next generations: those with a dream should not be held back by external conditioning.”
Following this, the focus shifted to the project “Steel with Women,” alongside the presentation of the book written by Francesca Morandi – published by Il Sole 24 Ore – which gathers stories and testimonies of women “who do business.” Interviewed by Rita Querzè, journalist for Corriere della Sera, these women took the stage at siderweb: Cristina Scocchia (CEO of Illy Caffè), Cristiana Scelza (Executive Vice President of Electrification at Prysmian Group and President of Valore D), Isabella Manfredi (Chief Sustainability & Communications Officer at Feralpi Group), and the author herself, for a lively discussion on work and equality, leadership, work-life balance, diversity, and inclusion.
A serious contribution to a sustainable, innovative, and strong sector—just like steel.
