The first real "green" steel plant will set in Sweden: Marcegaglia is among the partners of the initiative

The world's first real "green" steel plant will be built in Boden, in northern Sweden.

The exclusive "zero emissions" plant, powered only by green hydrogen, will be built by the Swedish steel company H2 Green Steel (H2GS), with the initial financial contribution of some important investors and international groups committed to the most advanced technologies for environmental sustainability and Industry 4.0.

Among these investors, Marcegaglia will participate in the initiative not only as a financial partner, but also as a strategic industrial partner in both production and commercial sides.

The innovative H2GS steelmaking complex - which will become operational in 2024, anticipating the EU's 2050 eco-compatibility targets - will initially produce 2.5 million tons of green steel per year, with a target of 5 million tons by 2030.

H2GS will fuel its plant with green hydrogen using only local renewable energy sources (such as wind and hydropower) and high-quality iron ore, of which Sweden's Boden cluster, a world leader in metallurgy and steelmaking, is particularly rich.
